Description:
This book presents a biography of African-American female goalkeeper Briana Scurry, from her childhood when she exhibited an immediate knack for all sports, to Team USA's 1999 Women's World Cup Championship. As a child, Scurry remembers being the only African-American in her entire girl's soccer league. She accepted a full college scholarship to play soccer at the University of Massachusetts where she led her school to the finals. Briana was a very quiet and shy player until she learned to become aggressive as a professional. Team USA achieved the "Triple Crown" of women's soccer when winning the 1996 Olympics, the 1998 Goodwill Games, and the 1999 Women's World Cup, where Briana made the save that won the championship.
